About

What is WAKA?

The World Adult Kickball Association was founded in Washington DC in 1998. Today, there are over 400 leagues across the country and thousands of players in most states. You are becoming a part of a huge group of kickballers are over the U.S. when you register to play in this league.

How long is a kickball season?
A typical season lasts 10 weeks which includes a first week scrimmage/warm-up game, 8 regular season games, and a tournament.

How many players are on each team?
A team can have up to 26 players. Eleven people are on the field at a time (a minimum of 4 girls and 4 guys). Everyone will have a chance to kick. The ideal number is about 17-19 players on a team which helps when people can’t make it to some games.

How do I join the league if I don’t know anyone or my company won’t pay?
You can register on your own as a free agent. That means we will put you on a team that needs some extra players. It’s a great chance to make 15 or so new friends.

I have a group of friends that want to play. Can we play on the same team?
Yes, we can create what’s called a friend group that guarantees that you will all be on the same team. You can set this up on the website or email cindy@kickball.com for help.

What is included with the registration?
Your registration includes a team shirt, equipment at the fields, field rental, 2 season parties, weekly bar parties, and the chance to meet lots of new friends. Liability insurance is also included but we ask all of our players to also have their own personal health insurance.

What time are games played?
Typically, games will be held about 6:30 PM and 7:30 PM with teams alternating each week.

Is this a co-ed league?
Yes, every team has both males and females. In order for a team to play and not forfeit each week, you must provide at least four males and four females.

Are referees provided?
WAKA Durham-Chapel Hill asks our players to provide referees each week. This is a volunteer league which means that we do not pay outside referees except in some tournament situations.  Being a referee helps our players to learn the rules and become better players.

Are there social events outside of the weekly games?
Yes, a portion of your registration goes toward the bar tab at our two big season parties. That means you get to come and have free drinks on the league. We also have a weekly bar social and often other events like bowling, karaoke, trivia, and more.

What happens after the season?
You are invited to register for the next season. If your team took first or second place in the league, you may be invited to the World Adult Kickball Association National Championships in Vegas held every October.

How do I register?
Just give us your name and email here. Or email cindy@kickball.com for details.
